Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Individualized Supported Living (ISL)?
Individualized Supported Living (ISL) is a service that helps adults with developmental disabilities live in their own homes or apartments with personalized support. MMSL provides trained Direct Support Professionals who assist with daily tasks, community participation, and personal goals — on a schedule that fits each person's life.
  • What is a day program, and who is it for?
A day program provides structured daytime activities, skill-building, and community engagement for adults with developmental disabilities. MMSL's day programs focus on independence, relationships, and meaningful participation — not just supervision. They are designed for adults who want to stay active and connected during the day while their family or caregivers are at work.
  • How do I get started with MMSL services?
Getting started begins with a conversation. Contact us by phone or email and we'll walk you through the process — including eligibility, available funding options, and how we match individuals with the right support team. Most individuals start through Missouri's Division of Developmental Disabilities (DD) waiver programs.
  • Does MMSL accept Medicaid or waiver funding?
Yes. MMSL is a certified Missouri DD provider and accepts funding through Missouri's Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver programs, including the Missouri DD Waiver. We work with individuals, families, and support coordinators to help navigate the funding process.
  • What areas does MMSL serve?
MMSL primarily serves the mid-Missouri region, including Columbia, Jefferson City, and surrounding communities. If you're unsure whether we serve your area, please reach out — we're happy to discuss options and connect you with local resources if needed.
  • What training do MMSL Direct Support Professionals receive?
All MMSL Direct Support Professionals complete state-required training plus MMSL's own onboarding program covering person-centered care, safety, communication, and rights. We also provide ongoing training and supervision to ensure every individual we support receives consistent, high-quality care.
  • How does MMSL involve families in care?
Family involvement is encouraged and valued. MMSL works closely with families during the intake process, individual support planning, and ongoing communication. We believe that the people who know and love an individual are essential partners in providing the best possible support.
  • How do I report a concern or file a complaint?
MMSL takes concerns seriously. You can contact our office directly by phone or email to speak with a program coordinator or administrator. We also have an internal grievance process to ensure all concerns are documented, reviewed, and addressed promptly and fairly.
